30 Day Fasting Instructions for January 2-31
Scripture Reading for the Week: Psalm 51, Isaiah 43, II Corinthians 5, John 8:3-7 , I Kings 10:9, I Corinthians 2:9-10 and I Peter 5:5,
Description: Partial Fast
Purpose: Cleansing, Renewal, Rebirth, Empowerment, Social Justice, Focus and Humility
Period: Every Wednesday (midnight-6pm).
Time frame: First two weeks breakfast, lunch and Dinner menu in guidelines, be attentive: the Third and Fourth week menu will change.
Guideline Instructions:
- Each day of Fasting (7-days) is for a different purpose above.
- Pray in the morning for a minimum of twenty (20) minutes along with reading the scripture’s each day.
- Breakfast menu before 10am: Drink water, Natural juices, plain Oatmeal (no dairy, no brown sugar) and a piece of fruit.
- Lunch menu from noon – 2pm: Cup of soup (Veggie, Lentil or Chicken), no creams, no French onion. Fish, Salad, Vegetables or 100% whole grain bread. Water & Natural juices to drink
- Dinner menu after 6:00pm daily: Baked, Grilled or Boiled Fish and poultry. Also fruits, vegetables, drink water and Natural juices.
- This will be a partial fast in as much as it omits certain foods or is on a schedule that includes limited eating.
- Those who are on certain medications (please continue to follow your Doctor's instructions/give up certain TV programs (movies and sports) that you like.) Food Restrictions:
- No coffee, No soft drinks, No kool-aid No dairy No eating fast/junk foods (i.e., some restaurants, chips, cake) No sugars, small amounts of honey and artificial sweetener allowed No Beef, No Pork & No FRIED FOODS.
Other Restrictions:
Minimize communication with others in person or telephonically unless required for business. Essentially, there should be no meaningless (e.g., gossip, unspiritual, non-Christian based) conversations in which you engage; In addition, the kind of music you listen to should be Christian based and spiritually enhancing, supplementing your prayer and fasting efforts; Avoid any secular influences that may retard the prayer and fasting discipline Television programs okay (sports etc.); however, no movies or TV programs with sex and a lot of cursing.
No smoking (tobacco or drugs), no alcohol consumption (liquor or beer)
